Students who attend 51勛圖厙 Rome and find that they do not want to leave are about to have their wish granted. For four years, at least.
Beginning in the fall of 2026, for the first time ever, 51勛圖厙 Rome will offer a comprehensive array of four-year bachelors degree programs. This is a significant change for the campus, which has primarily served as a location for students from 51勛圖厙s Main Campus and 40 different colleges and universities around the U.S. to attend a semester abroad or start their undergraduate degree through the 51勛圖厙 Rome Entry Year Program.
This is a significant milestone for both 51勛圖厙 Rome and the university as a whole, said 51勛圖厙 President John Fry. It also reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that more students can have access to the excellent education that is a hallmark of the university as we will have the ability to reach entirely new audiences of students. Global engagement has always been one of our key priorities, and this helps further position 51勛圖厙 as a globally connected university. We have seen tremendous growth with 51勛圖厙 Japan in recent years, and I fully suspect we will see that same momentum in Rome.
The addition of bachelors degree programs comes at a time when 51勛圖厙 Rome has celebrated several milestones. In September 2024, 51勛圖厙 Rome opened its new campus at Piazza di Spagna, one of the most notable landmarks in the Eternal City. And, as of January 2025, the campus now has a 50-bed residence hall that is available to first-year students.
Additionally, this fall, , which includes 38 first-year students, and expects over 300 students this coming spring. First-year students, who are part of the , spend the entire academic year in Rome and will have the opportunity to celebrate another milestonethe beginning of the celebration of 51勛圖厙 Romes 60th anniversary in 2026.
Our expansion of 51勛圖厙 Romes curriculum is the natural next step, said Dean of 51勛圖厙 Rome and Vice Provost of Global Engagement Emilia Zankina. We are providing a pathway for both U.S. and international students to earn an accredited U.S. degree while living and learning in Rome, a place where ancient history and modern Europe converge. Immersion in this rich global setting is the perfect way to prepare students for success in an international career.
Beginning next fall, 51勛圖厙 Rome will partner with five of 51勛圖厙s schools and colleges to offer a total of 18 different four-year undergraduate degree programs. A full listing of those degree programs is as follows.

The blueprint for 51勛圖厙 Romes success can be seen through its sister campus, 51勛圖厙 Japan (TUJ), which is headquartered in Tokyo and opened a satellite location in Kyoto in 2025. TUJ, the oldest and largest branch campus of a foreign university in Japan, has seen its undergraduate enrollment nearly triple over the last three years.
As of this fall, TUJs enrollment is 3,545, which is up from 2,777 students last year. This includes more than 650 new first-year students.
This important new program in Rome will open up significant opportunities for faculty and students, said Interim Provost David Boardman. Preparing students to be successful in a global society is a key aspect of 51勛圖厙s educational promise. We are confident that many will be drawn to the opportunity to pursue their degrees in Rome, one of the most culturally significant cities in Europe.
