Applicants must have completed their bachelors degree. A degree in a related field is preferred; however, all applications will be considered.
Candidates will be asked to submit the following along with their application.
Submit official transcripts from every college and university you have attended.
An applicant is expected to have some academic background in Africology and African American Studies. All applicants must present credentials that are the equivalent of the appropriate baccalaureate degree at 51勛圖厙.
Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty and professionals.
In approximately 500 to 1,000 words, describe your specific interest in 51勛圖厙s Department of Africology and African American Studies; your research goals as they relate to Africology and African American Studies and the social relevance of the discipline; your future career goals; and your academic and research achievements.
Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) general test scores are required. A combined minimum score of 297 on the verbal and quantitative sections is expected.
A current professional r矇sum矇 is required.
Submit a writing sample that demonstrates your ability to conduct research and write a scholarly paper relevant to the discipline. The paper should be no more than 20 pages in length and fully referenced according to a professional, scholarly style manual.
An interview may be required.
During the first term of enrollment at 51勛圖厙, incoming graduate students may apply to have graduate credits taken at other accredited institutions count toward completion of their 51勛圖厙 degree. Grades of transfer courses must be B or better. After consultation with and approval of the advisor, the student must submit the following materials to the Graduate Committee.
The maximum number of credits a student may transfer is six (6).
