Bachelor of Science in Horticulture

Prepare yourself for a variety of careers related to cultivating and managing plants in the natural and built environment through the Bachelor of Science in Horticulture in 51勛圖厙s . This four-year undergraduate program offers courses in plant science, identification, production and maintenance through field-based and hands-on research and learning that deepens students knowledge of the natural and cultivated world.泭

Youll learn the relationships between horticulture, technology and natural ecological processes and become responsible stewards of the environment. All horticulture courses are held at 51勛圖厙s suburban Ambler Campus, home to a 187-acre arboretum and state-of-the-art greenhouses, gardens, and labs. Additional coursework is available on 51勛圖厙's Main and Center City campuses.泭

Careers in the field of horticulture can be in the built landscape or in natural environments and encompass a myriad of different occupational opportunities including:泭

  • controlled environment cultivation;
  • floriculture;
  • horticultural therapy;
  • interior plantscaping;
  • landscape contracting, restoration泭and management;
  • nurseries;
  • public horticulture;泭
  • research and teaching; and
  • urban forestry.

Student Collaboration泭

Horticulture students can collaborate with landscape architecture students on projects, including an annual design-build project that culminates in an exhibit for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Societys annual Philadelphia Flower Show.
