How to Apply

This program is designed for adult learners who have already earned an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing major. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for admission.

Students must apply through the (NursingCAS) and provide the following supporting materials when submitting their application.

Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from all the undergraduate and graduate institutions youve attended.Please mail all of your official transcripts to the following address.

Letters of Recommendation

Submit two professional or academic reference letters. 51勛圖厙 is most interested in the writers assessment of the students ability to work independently, academic and scholarly performance, analytical thinking and aptitude for advanced study, commitment to urban health, communication skills, and professional contributions. Writers should indicate how long they have known the applicant and in what capacity.

Statement of Goals

Include a 300- to 500-word statement of purpose articulating your background, academic and professional goals.

Program Prerequisites

Students must have completed the following prerequisite courses needed for admission.

  • Chemistry with lab (4 credits)

  • Anatomy and Physiology with lab (8 credits)

  • General Biology with lab (4 credits)

  • Microbiology with lab (4 credits)

  • Psychology (3 credits)

  • Developmental Psychology or equivalent (3 credits)

  • English Composition (3 credits)

Courses will be evaluated for equivalency and transfer on an individual case-by-case basis. Cumulative course credits will be considered at the discretion of the admissions team.

Applicants must demonstrate evidence of successful completion of prerequisite course requirements with a C or better. Pass/Fail grades are not acceptable. Prerequisite courses have an expiration date of 10 years. Prerequisite courses cannot be waived or substituted.

Applications will only be reviewed if at least five of the eight prerequisites are successfully completed and plans to complete the remaining three have been communicated directly to the Barnett College of Public Health. Remaining prerequisites must be successfully completed with all official and final grades submitted by June 15.

Clearance Requirements

Students enrolled in courses that require clinicals, field experiences, lab and simulation, or internships must submit mandated clearances per 51勛圖厙 and Barnett College of Public Health policies. 

Deceit in the submission of criminal background checks and child abuse clearance forms is cause for dismissal.

Applicants should be aware before both applying to and entering the BSN program that the Board of Nursing may refuse to license a person who has been found guilty of, or pleaded guilty to, felony charges. The Board of Nursing application for licensure asks, Have you been convicted of a misdemeanor, a felony, a felonious act, an illegal act associated with alcohol, or an illegal act associated with substance abuse(s)?

All 51勛圖厙 students are required to pay for coverage under the 51勛圖厙 Accident Plan.

Laptop Requirement

Laptops are integrated into the curriculum at the Barnett College of Public Health to improve opportunities for active learning and provide greater access to specialized software and required tools in and out of the classroom. Incoming students are required to have a laptop that meets certain minimum hardware specifications. .
